Flash 4 - Adding Sound

Our Movie Gets Noisy

by Mark Larmand
June 14, 2000

If you've been following this small group of articles from the beginning (#1, #2, this is #3), you should have a working copy of this project up to this point. What we're now going to focus on specifically in this article is adding some sound to our 'splash logo' movie.

Note: For the sake of user convenience, the sounds in the finished sample movie included here have been optimized slightly more than normal. So you may hear a few ugly POPS and PINGS.

These are the points we'll be covering here:

STAGE 1: Preparing Sounds.
- Formats, sampling rates and file size.
STAGE 2: Importing and Inserting Sounds.
- Importing a sound file into Flash.
- Inserting the sound file into the movie, on it's own layer.
- Syncing/Aligning the sound to the movie.
STAGE 3: Editing Sounds.
- Applying one of Flash's built-in effects to a sound.
- Optimizing a sound for the final output.
